Read MoreCo-sleeping and bed-sharing can be a tempting option for mothers, as it allows for cuddly bonding moments and can make it easier to put baby back to sleep in the middle of the night. However, it's important to consider the risks associated with bed-sharing. The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) states that bed-sharing can increase the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). To keep your baby safe, the AAP recommends room-sharing until your baby is at least 6 months old. Room-sharing means your baby has their own sleeping surface, like a crib or bassinet, in your room. SIDS is the leading cause of death in babies between 1 month and 1 year old, and while the exact causes are not known, there are steps that can be taken to reduce the risk. It's important to note that breastfeeding at night might lead to the occasional bed-sharing, but it's best to avoid it altogether for the safety of your baby.
