Modern Farmhouse Nursery
Hi! I’m Lauren, founder of Sleep + the City! We are SO excited to finally share our newest family edition (well, our Nephew, the first one!!), Baby Easton! Today we will walk you through his cozy space, and we’ll share all the details about how we were able to pull things old & new to create a neutral farmhouse nursery that a boy or girl could enjoy, and why choosing carpet in your room is best for baby!
Details:
Black Spindle Crib: We love the timeless look of this black spindle crib (for under $350), without actually having an antique around.
To keep walls simple with the modern farmhouse look, we chose simple script signs above baby boy’s crib.
This dresser was purchased second-hand, and updated with three coats of Annie Sloane chalk paint in duck blue, and new knobs from Anthropologie.
The color scheme we chose for a modern farmhouse nursery look was black, white, aloe, with gold accents.

Carpet vs. Wood Flooring: We ended up choosing wall-to-wall carpet for this farmhouse nursery room (we have wood floors everywhere else) for a bunch of reasons: not only are wood floors chillier at night for feedings, but carpet brings a healthier aspect to the nursery and Easton’s sensitive nose. Allergies are common in our family, as is asthma, and having carpet in the nursery supports healthier living and improving air quality (goodbye dust bunnies). Carpet in your home can also dampen the sound of toys falling over, adults walking, and the pitter patter of little feet, so your new baby can nap in peace in their beautiful new nursery. You can visit The Carpet & Rug Institute here to enter a sweepstakes to win a $500 Visa gift card to brighten up your nursery or any room of the house with fresh new carpet for the summer!
More details:
To really bring a little Magnolia into this farmhouse nursery, we decided to channel our inner-Joanna Gaines and install this cross stitch patterned wallpaper, which will grow with Easton as he gets older!
We used dried eucalyptus throughout the farmhouse nursery to bring in elements of green.
We found these curtain holdbacks of tiny bumblebees to complete the farmhouse nursery look. Similar ones here!
